From the moment El Camino Las Olas opened this past Saturday afternoon, the place was packed with a line stretching down the street.

“It was mainly word of mouth,” manager Brian Gough says. “We’ve been out here on the streets basically hiring every day for the last six or seven months. And people just walking by [were] excited to come by and really check us out. We’ve been passing out fliers, but it was mainly word of mouth. And people showed up, and we’re really thankful for that.”

It didn’t hurt that on Saturday, March 24, El Camino served free margaritas, beer and tacos from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. and had two DJs spinning. The official grand opening was Sunday, March 25.

El Camino in Fort Lauderdale is roughly three times the size of the Delray Beach restaurant, which is the eatery’s original location and bills itself as serving Mexican soul food. The restaurant is equally known for its tequila bar.

The new restaurant on Las Olas will start brunch service this coming Saturday and Sunday, Easter weekend.
