When long-awaited El Camino restaurant opens on Las Olas this month, you might want to skip the tequila and try its new local brew.
Funky Buddha Brewery has partnered with the Mexican soul food restaurant and tequila bar coming soon to Fort Lauderdale to create an exclusive New England-style IPA called El Camino Haze. The craft beer selection is brewed with flaked oats and mosaic, citra and El Dorado hops to create an aromatic tropical flavor.
“It is one of the hottest new beer styles in craft beer right now, and a juicy IPA complements Mexican food very well,” Brian Albe, co-founder of Modern Restaurant Group, says.
El Camino Haze is now on tap at the original El Camino location in Delray Beach and Funky Buddha’s Oakland Park Tap Room. It’ll also be free-flowing at sister restaurant Park Tavern every weekend during its bottomless brunch, alongside traditional mimosas and bloody marys.
El Camino, known for its late-night happy hour and $2 Taco Tuesday, has been named to OpenTable’s Top 100 Hot Spots in America for the past three years. The Delray favorite offers a wide list of craft beer, cocktails, sangria and agave-based liquors, in addition to its signature Mexican cuisine. The Las Olas location will feature an expanded mezcal and tequila section, as well as weekend brunch.
Since the beer’s launch on Feb. 23, the reception from customers has been amazing, Albe says. He recommends pairing it with El Camino’s classic crispy fish tacos.
“The juicy IPA pairs really well due to the citrus flavors that complement the fish,” he says.
This isn’t the first time Modern Restaurant Group—which owns El Camino, Park Tavern and Cut 432 in Delray—has worked with Funky Buddha. Park Tavern and the local brewery previously collaborated on Last Buffalo in the Park, a Bourbon barrel-aged Imperial version of Funky Buddha’s decadent Last Snow porter, made with coconut and fresh roasted coffee.
“Our collaboration with Funky Buddha allows us to stay true to our mission in working with small breweries,” Albe says.
Look out for El Camino’s grand opening party later this month, which will feature a live DJ and complimentary margaritas, cerveza and tacos.
